We love making all kinds of things in our pie irons, like this camp cooker breakfast bakecinnamon buns, and pizza. Our new double pie iron from Woods has been a game changer, especially for this yummy French toast recipe!

Tips for Cooking With a Pie Iron

  • When cooking with a pie iron, begin by applying non-stick cooking spray or oil to the inside of both iron plates. This step is important so that your delicious meal doesn’t stick to the iron and burn.
  • Place your recipe ingredients into the iron before closing and latching it.
  • Cook the recipe over an open fire. We recommend placing the iron over the fire for two minutes before unlatching, checking for doneness, and flipping the iron over to cook the other side.
  • Use caution when handling both the metal latch and handles, as they can become hot while cooking.

How to Make Pie Iron French Toast

We like to use this double camp cooker from Woods whenever we’re making French toast, because you can cook two slices of bread at a time. Single pie irons, like the other ones we have, work, too.

They just take a bit longer. And when you’re cooking for hungry boys, it’s good to make as much food as quickly as possible!

Ingredients

  • French bread, sliced – Thick slices soak up the eggy goodness without falling apart, making every bite soft inside and golden outside.
  • Milk – Adds creaminess and helps turn the eggs into the perfect dunkable mixture.
  • Eggs – The key to that classic French toast texture, giving the bread its rich, custardy center.
  • Vanilla – Just a splash for next-level flavor.
  • Cinnamon – A warm, cozy spice that makes breakfast smell amazing.
  • Syrup – A must-have topping.
  • Butter – Keeps the French toast from sticking and adds that irresistible golden crispness.
