The key to creating this breakfast sandwich while backpacking is using the pot attachment on a jet boil and packing a small, light weight frying pan.
This is my absolute favorite cooking system to use while backpacking and having the pot attachment makes it an all-in-one backpacking stove. We use it to fry bacon, scramble eggs and cook sausage.
Backpacking Bagel Recipe
Ingredients:
- Bagel (I used this keto bagel recipe)
- Sliced cheese
- Cooked sausage pattie
- Egg
I packed all of these ingredients fully cooked and frozen on my last backpacking trip. Then I prepared this recipe on my first morning. Without refrigeration, the ingredients should be used first thing on your trip.
Directions:
- Set up the jet boil with the pot attachment. Turn it on and heat the small skillet. Cut the bagel and toast both sides.
2. Prepare the egg. There are a few ways to do this, I packed the egg fully cooked and frozen but you could pack an uncooked egg in the shell to cook onsite.
Eggs can last for weeks and even months in the shell, I’ve seen other hikers pack in an entire carton of eggs to enjoy while camping. Fresh eggs are one of the best ways to enjoy breakfast in the wilderness!
