Gold Mountain ~ Campsite Review

We ventured out into beautiful South Okanagan recently.  It was fun to explore the small towns along Hwy 3, a route that we had never driven before.  Gold Mountain Campground is located just north of the small town of Hedley along the Similkameen River.

Our Gold Mountain Campground Review:

We were greeted by some of the friendliest campground owners/hosts that we had ever met.  They were lovely as was our campsite, located right beside the playground.

If you are on a road trip through BC then this would be a great campground for you!  They have mostly level sites with hook ups, a sani dump on site, camping cabins and gorgeous grass and treed areas.  It’s perfect for a quick stop but not a “destination” campground that we would typically go to.  The campground, washrooms and surrounding area were very clean.

We were disappointed that river access was very steep and that the sites offered very little privacy from other campers.  In the spring and early summer months the river is very high and quick running.  We would love to explore this area again in the late summer or fall when we could enjoy a float and swim in the water.

We loved exploring the local history of Hedley.  Way up the mountain there is a Gold Mine {where the jet stream meets the mountain}.  The boys were fascinated and the little museum nearby was a big hit with them.

We also drove further west to Princeton and were lucky enough to walk into a classic car show.  Another hit with the boys.

Finally we stopped by Bromely Rock {or Broccoli Rock as the kids called it} to check out the local swimming hole.  Even here the river was dangerously fast but we were able to do a bit of wading in shallow pools and enjoy the scenery.  For a quick weekend trip, we had an amazing time!
