Whispering Pines ~ Campsite Review

We took our annual trip to the Shuswap a few weeks ago and had so. much. fun!  The area is absolutely gorgeous and full of tons of touristy activities for the whole family.

We decided to stay at Whispering Pines Campground this year as it is centrally located between Salmon Arm and Sicamous in Mara, British Columbia.

Our Whispering Pines Campground Review:

The campground was beautiful with wide open grassy areas and many large shade trees.  It is a private campground with 160 sites for tents, RVs and Motorhomes.  A small store, pool, mini golf course and sani dump were located on site as well.

What we liked:

Many of our neighbors were repeat guests at this campground and we have to admit that all of the sites were not created equal.  So if you had a chance to take a look at the sites and reserve one early you may be more than happy.  The campground also had a few fun activities that we really enjoyed:  a giant slip n’ slide was a huge hit, a glow-stick inspired dance party was loved by all and the daily tractor rides were a nice break that gave me just enough time to make dinner while the kids were out riding.

What we didn’t like:

Most of the 160 sites were not level {in fact our spot was so bad that we had to park the trailer backwards, driving the Pathfinder through the trees}, some sites were out in the open with no shade under the very hot sun {like ours} while others where under dense foliage {where the mosquitoes were much worse}, the power circuit could not keep up with all of the campsites and many campers {including us} frequently tripped the breakers, there is only one {relatively clean} bathroom and shower facility {we never had hot water}, the store was not stocked well, the wading pool that is advertised for children was not open, the mini golf course needs major work and the sani dump was an extra fee.  I have noticed that many of these concerns have been upgraded since our last visit.  Hooray!

We did a lot of hanging out, bike riding and enjoying the pool area.

This little guy made a TON of camping friends during our week long stay.  It was wonderful to see Cam breaking out of his shell and making friends. Isaiah is traditionally our more outgoing twin.  I love watching these two grow and mature.

Our trip to the Shuswap is our main “touristy” vacation where we try to visit all of the local attractions.  Here Cam is on the kids rope course at Sky Trek near Revelstoke.

And of course we had to stop by D Dutchmen Dairy ~ one of my childhood favorites where they have THE BEST ice cream!
