Traeger Smoked Ribs Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 racks of pork back ribs, raw and defrosted
  • Traeger dry rub* 
  • Barbecue sauce of choice**

Directions

1. Cut the thin membrane from the back of the ribs.

2. Pat the ribs dry with paper towel.

3. Cover the front and back of each rack of ribs with the dry rub.

4. Preheat the Traeger to 165 degrees F.

5. Place the ribs on the bottom grill grate.

6. Smoke for 2 hours.

7. At the 2 hour mark, open the smoker, wrap each rack of ribs in aluminium foil and place back on the grill.

8. Smoke ribs for 2 more hours at 225 degrees F.

9. At the four hour mark, remove the ribs from the foil, place back on the grill and baste with BBQ sauce.

10. Continue to flip and baste the ribs at 15 minute intervals for one additional hour.

11. After a total cook time of five hours, remove the ribs from the grill and cut into pieces.

Cooking tips

  • Make sure the internal temperature of the ribs reaches 185 degrees F.
  • Removing the membrane, or silverskin, on the bone side of the ribs is an important step that allows all the great flavour from seasonings and smoke to absorb into the surface of the meat.

  • To make cleanup easy, place ribs on a rimmed baking sheet while you remove the silverskin and add the dry rub.
  • When basting, make sure you cover the sides of each rack of ribs. You want that sauce everywhere!

BBQ sauce tips

  • In a small bowl, combine yellow mustard, apple cider vinegar, and worchestershire sauce with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to taste.

2. Pat the ribs dry with paper towel.
