Chicken Bacon Ranch Foil Packs

In our opinion, foil pack dinners are the simplest way to make a meal after a long day of exploring or spending time at the beach. We especially love them because of how easy they are to customize to each individual.

Not to mention, when cooking in the great outdoors, any meal with quick clean-up is always a win.

How to Fold a Foil Packet

  • For best results, start by pulling the top and bottom of the aluminum foil to meet in the center.
  • Fold the two edges together tightly along the entire length. A 2-inch fold is ideal.
  • Finally, seal edges by rolling up the ends of each piece of tin foil to create a packet.

Substitutions and Add-ins

  • Instead of using boneless skinless chicken breasts, try other cuts of chicken.
  • Add green beans or a cup of broccoli to the recipe.
  • Small red potatoes
  • Green onions
  • Include other seasonings, like garlic powder, onion powder, or black pepper.
  • As the cheese and bacon cooks, they add oil to the packet, helping to create crispy potatoes and juicy chicken. You can add an extra drizzle of olive oil too if you wish.

Tips and Tricks

  • When planning for camping, I like to do as much prep as possible at home, while I have access to hot running water. It makes clean up so much easier.
  • These foil packs can also be cooked on a baking sheet if you are worried about the packet leaking on the grill.
  • Use sheets of heavy-duty foil or double wrap your packet if you are worried out breakage.
  • Open packets carefully. They release quite a bit of hot steam.
  • Give your foil a light coating of non-stick cooking spray to help prevent your ingredients from sticking.
  • Be sure to cut your chicken breasts into evenly sized pieces for even cooking.
  • Any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge or cooler.
