Steak and Mushroom Foil Packets
Today we are sharing a delicious recipe for steak and mushroom foil packs that we all love. Tender steak, sliced mushrooms, and potatoes are coated in garlic butter and cooked to perfection.
This hearty meal is always a crowd pleaser! Be sure to add it to your camping menu plan for all of your trips this summer.

How to Fold a Foil Packet
- For best results, start by pulling the top and bottom of the aluminum foil to meet in the center.
- Fold the two edges together tightly along the entire length. A 2-inch fold is ideal.
- Finally, roll up the ends of the foil to create a packet.

Ingredients
- Steak, cut into strips – Choose your favorite cut and slice it thin so it cooks up tender and juicy.
- Baby yellow potatoes, halved – These little potatoes soften perfectly and soak up all that garlicky butter goodness like champs. Red potatoes or sweet potatoes could also be used.
- Mushrooms, sliced – Earthy and savory, mushrooms add big flavor and go perfectly with steak.
- Garlic butter – The real MVP, melting into every corner of the packet.
- Salt and pepper – A classic duo that brings out the natural flavors without overcomplicating things.
- Fresh parsley, garnish – A pop of color and freshness.

Instructions
1. Preheat the BBQ grill to 400 degrees F.
2. Cut up the potatoes, place in a medium microwave-safe bowl, and partially cook in the microwave for 3-5 minutes.
Tip: We do this at home before we pack the potatoes for camping. You can also pre-cook the potatoes however you want. Just be sure that they are softened before placing them in the packet.
3. Cut the steak and slice the mushrooms.
4. Divide the ingredients equally onto four sheets of foil (about 12” long).
5. Top with garlic butter and parsley.

6. Fold foil into a packet.

7. Place the foil packets directly on the grill grate.
8. Cook for 10 minutes or until the steak reaches your desired level of doneness.

Tip: An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center will read 130 degrees F (54 degrees C) for medium-rare steak.

Tips and Tricks
- When planning for camping, we like to do as much prep as possible at home, while we have access to hot running water. It makes cleaning up so much easier.
- These steak foil packs can also be cooked on a sheet pan if you are worried about the packet leaking on the grill.
- Use heavy duty foil or double wrap your packet if you are worried out breakage.
- These steak foil packets can be cooked over the open flame of a campfire on the grill grate as well. Just be sure to check for doneness.
- Open packets carefully. They release quite a bit of hot steam.
- Give your foil a light coating of cooking spray to help prevent your ingredients from sticking.
- Any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge or cooler.
