Teriyaki Steak Foil Packets
Today we are sharing a teriyaki steak meal that is a family favorite. Tender steak and veggies are marinated in teriyaki sauce, sealed in foil, and cooked to perfection.
It is no wonder that this teriyaki foil packet recipe is always a crowd pleaser! Be sure to add it to your camping menu plan now.
How to Fold a Foil Packet
- For best results, start by pulling the top and bottom of the aluminum foil to meet in the center.
- Fold the two edges together tightly along the entire length. A 2-inch fold is ideal.
- Finally, roll up the ends of the foil to create a packet.
Ingredients
- Steak, cut into strips
- Broccoli – about 2 cups of florets.
- Bell peppers, cubed – green, yellow, orange, and red bell pepper all work. You could also use a combination of colors.
- White onion, diced
- Teriyaki sauce – it can be store-bought teriyaki sauce or a homemade version.
- Green onions, diced, optional
- Sesame seeds, optional
Instructions
1. Preheat the BBQ grill to 400 degrees F.
2. Cut up the vegetables and slice the steak.
3. Divide the ingredients equally onto four sheets of foil (about 12” long).
4. Top with half of the teriyaki sauce.
5. Fold aluminum foil into a packet.
6. Place foil packets directly onto the grill grate.
7. Cook for 10 minutes or until the steak reaches your desired level of doneness.
8. Top with remaining teriyaki sauce.
9. Garnish with green onion and sesame seeds.
Tip: An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center will read 130 degrees F (54 degrees C) for medium rare steaks. Adjust cook time for desired level of doneness.
Substitutions and Add-ins
- Add whatever fresh vegetables you have on hand.
- Pineapple chunks
- Red potatoes
- Green beans
- Red onion
- Snap peas
- Soy sauce may be used in addition to teriyaki sauce, but I would not recommend replacing it entirely. Soy sauce doesn’t thicken and coat the ingredients in the same way.
Tips and Tricks
- When planning for camping, I like to do as much prep as possible at home, while I have access to hot running water. It makes cleaning up much easier.
- This easy recipe can also be cooked on a baking sheet if you are worried about the packet leaking on the grill.
- Use heavy duty foil or double wrap your packet if you are worried out breakage.
- This can be cooked over the open flame of a campfire on the grill grate as well. Just be sure to check for doneness.
- Open packets carefully. They release quite a bit of hot steam.
- Give your foil a light coating of cooking spray to help prevent your ingredients from sticking.
- Any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge or cooler.
